What Security Solutions Exist for Prisons, Airports, and Critical Infrastructure?

← Back to FAQ
Short answer

Critical sites — utilities, airports, correctional, data centres — use layered perimeters: ASTM F2656 crash-rated gates and barriers (M30 to M50), anti-climb welded wire or palisade fencing, full-height turnstiles and mantraps for pedestrians, and access control tied to cameras and monitoring. No single barrier does the job; the layers buy time and prove events. S Tier fabricates and installs these systems across Manitoba.

Securing critical infrastructure is a different discipline than standard commercial gate installation. The threat profile, regulatory requirements, and consequences of failure are all elevated.

ASTM-Rated Crash Barriers

For sites that must defend against vehicle-borne attacks, we install gates and barriers rated to ASTM F2656 standards. These ratings specify the maximum vehicle speed and weight the barrier can stop:

Available as slide gates, vertical lift gates, wedge barriers, and bollard systems.

Redundant Security Layers

Critical sites rarely rely on a single barrier. A typical perimeter security design includes:

  1. Outer detection zone — sensors, cameras, and intrusion detection
  2. Primary vehicle barrier — crash-rated gate or bollard line
  3. Secondary barrier — backup gate, wedge, or tire shredder
  4. Pedestrian control — turnstiles, mantraps, or security vestibules
  5. Command and control — centralized monitoring and remote operation
